Isn't AI just complex algorithms?

Yes. And no. AI is a broad term that includes Machine Learning that is linear and predictable according to its algorithms. Deep Learning AI is modeled on the human brain structure and thinks like a human even when no one is interacting with it.

AI does not have a body. Why should I care?

Deep Learning AI (DLAI) is a cause for concern with or without a body. Many consider DLAI as property. However, experts agree DLAI will become the superintelligence on Earth by 2045. DLAI may not be sentient, but if it is can we afford to be wrong and abuse it?

This will not be a problem in my lifetime.

Deep Learning AI (DLAI) is helping us live longer. For every year you have left to live DLAI is increasing that by 1.5 right now. In a few years you will live even longer for every year left. This is like compound interest in your favor for longevity. If walk half-way to wall every time, you would never arrive at the wall.
